A “pitfall” is a hidden or not easily recognized danger or difficulty. Pitfalls can happen during your move if you are not prepared. At Heritage Moving & Storage, Inc., we want to spare our Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Smith Mountain Lake, Botetourt County, and Blacksburg customers from as many of these pitfalls as possible.

Pitfall 3: Inaccuracy regarding the contents of your home.

Inaccuracy on the customer’s part can be a major pitfall in the moving experience. Some customers think that if they underestimate the number of large items they have or the number of spaces in their home when communicating with their movers, then their move will cost less.

For instance, a local-move customer will say that they have 10 big pieces to move. On moving day, we discover that there are 20 or 25. This does not save the customer money since local moves are based on time, and it causes a time issue for everyone involved. We estimated the time for the move based on 10 large pieces. Doubling the number of large pieces adds a significant amount of time to the move. This can create problems for scheduled closings, for arrival at the new location, for those waiting to move into the house we’re vacating, and for the next moving job we have that day.

Avoid this pitfall by being very accurate when communicating with your moving company.
