You never know when bad weather will hit. Weather forecasts are often wrong, and when you schedule your move several weeks out,  you do not know what the current weather conditions will be.

Rain is the most common weather factor we deal with at Heritage Moving & Storage, Inc. The effect rain has on a move depends on how hard it’s raining. Light rain is usually not much of an issue. Heavy rain creates more moving challenges.

If it’s raining heavily, we might ask the customer if there is flexibility to move the following day. But we do understand that some customers have a hard deadline.

If there is a hard deadline, then we try to get the truck as close to the house as possible. We protect the furniture with moving pads. Then we cover the moving pads with plastic to keep the pads from getting too wet and to protect the furniture.

We also lay down pads in the house to protect the flooring from water.

If we’re moving into a new-construction home, there may not be any grass, creating mud in rainy conditions. When we’re dealing with mud, we ask the customer to provide carpet remnants if possible inside and outside for the crew members to wipe their shoes.

Sometimes we’ll stage two crew members inside the house with their shoes off. This allows our outside crew to avoid walking in the house with muddy shoes. Instead, they pass items through the door to the inside crew to place the items.

The most important thing to keep in mind if your move is happening during rain is that your move may take longer than anticipated. Your patience is appreciated.

In all kinds of weather, we make every effort to accomplish your move on schedule.
